Best Steakhouses in Banff

Banff is steak country in the simplest sense. Alberta beef is one of the few things this part of the country grows better than anyone else, and the better Banff kitchens take that responsibility seriously. The list below sticks to the rooms that buy properly, dry age in house, and run a wine list deep enough to match. Most also run a happy hour bar menu so you can clip the entry price if you sit at the bar instead of booking the dining room.

The Maple Leaf Steak and Seafood is the long standing Banff steakhouse classic, upstairs dining room, dry aged Alberta beef, and the most considered wine list on the strip. Bluebird Steakhouse is the modern wood fired alternative that has quietly become the locals' pick, with one of the best ribeyes in the valley. The Bison Restaurant on Bear Street runs a slightly more rustic, game leaning version with proper aged cuts and a small upstairs dining room. Saltlik on Banff Ave is the casual but considered Western steakhouse, with sharing cuts and a busier bar.

For other Banff date night options that are not strictly steakhouses, see the date night Banff guide. The Maple Leaf and Bluebird also feature in the best restaurants Banff list.

About this list

How we curate

Every venue on this list is hand-picked by us. No paid placement, no auto-pulled aggregator data, just spots a Bow Valley local would actually send a friend to. Times and prices are verified against the venue's own sources at least once a month. More on how HappyMap works.
